The Simon Wakim Sustainability Scholarship supports students that are pursuing careers which have a focus on sustainability. These young individuals possess a strong work ethic and a desire to succeed, but require financial assistance to take the first step towards their goals.

About the Scholarship

In today's world, the need for sustainable practices has never been more urgent. From climate change to resource depletion, our planet faces unprecedented challenges. Investing in the next generation of leaders and innovators is crucial to creating a more sustainable future for all.

The Simon Wakim Sustainability Scholarship is designed to recognise and reward scholars who are passionate about sustainability and committed to environmental stewardship. Simon hopes to enable tomorrow’s leaders to become catalysts for sustainable change in their communities and beyond.

Availability

This scholarship is offered annually to one person. Applications for 2024 are open until May 31, 2024.

The Award

The value of this scholarship is AUD $5,000 (total amount).  

If the candidate also wishes, Simon Wakim will be open to providing mentorship and career advice to the recipient.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must be enrolled full-time in an accredited Australian Tertiary Education Institution, or provide evidence of acceptance into an accredited Australian Tertiary Education Institution degree program for final year high school students. You must be studying for a certificate, diploma, degree or traineeship in Sustainability, Environment, or related fields of study.

Only citizens or permanent residents of Australia can apply.

You must have reached 18 years of age to be eligible.

The Challenge

To apply, please write a letter (maximum 1,200 words) outlining:

  1. An explanation of your commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
  2. How your experiences, values, and aspirations have shaped your understanding of the importance of sustainability.
  3. What proposed initiatives and projects aimed at promoting sustainability in your community or field of study most excite you.
  4. How the funding from this scholarship will help you.

  1. Proof of Identification
  2. Proof of enrolment or enrolment offer, including course name, tertiary institution name and enrolment status
  3. Your personal statement (max word count 1,200 words)
  4. Contact details (including residential address).

Selection Process

The winner of the scholarship will be selected and awarded by Simon Wakim, on the basis of the personal statement that best grasps the challenge. Simon Wakim will decide which submission is successful on November 30, 2024.

The winner will be notified by email and their name will be published on our website.
